The worst performers of the session were Amgen Inc (NASDAQ:), which fell 1.69% or 4.77 points to trade at 278.10 at the close. JPMorgan Chase & Co (NYSE:) declined 1.39% or 3.47 points to end at 246.25 and Honeywell International Inc (NASDAQ:) was down 1.28% or 2.98 points to 229.95.

The top performers on the S&P 500 were Super Micro Computer Inc (NASDAQ:) which rose 28.62% to 41.98, Lam Research Corp (NASDAQ:) which was up 6.27% to settle at 78.51 and Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings Ltd (NYSE:) which gained 5.43% to close at 28.35.

The worst performers were PG&E Corp (NYSE:) which was down 4.99% to 20.55 in late trade, Targa Resources Inc (NYSE:) which lost 4.78% to settle at 194.54 and Vistra Energy Corp (NYSE:) which was down 3.58% to 154.11 at the close.

The top performers on the NASDAQ Composite were FTC Solar Inc (NASDAQ:) which rose 989.23% to 3.43, Senti Biosciences Inc (NASDAQ:) which was up 362.96% to settle at 10.00 and Purple Biotech (NASDAQ:) which gained 150.37% to close at 8.40.

The worst performers were Mondee Holdings Inc (NASDAQ:) which was down 47.18% to 0.38 in late trade, Jayud Global Logistics Ltd (NASDAQ:) which lost 39.63% to settle at 0.67 and T Stamp Inc (NASDAQ:) which was down 33.83% to 0.46 at the close.

Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the New York Stock Exchange by 1600 to 1199 and 93 ended unchanged; on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange, 1731 rose and 1600 declined, while 94 ended unchanged.

Shares in Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings Ltd (NYSE:) rose to 3-years highs; up 5.43% or 1.46 to 28.35. Shares in Apple Inc (NASDAQ:) rose to all time highs; rising 0.95% or 2.26 to 239.59. Shares in Mondee Holdings Inc (NASDAQ:) fell to 3-years lows; falling 47.18% or 0.34 to 0.38. Shares in Senti Biosciences Inc (NASDAQ:) rose to 52-week highs; rising 362.96% or 7.84 to 10.00.

The , which measures the implied volatility of S&P 500 options, was down 1.26% to 13.34 a new 3-months low.

Gold Futures for February delivery was down 0.75% or 20.03 to $2,660.97 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in January rose 0.25% or 0.17 to hit $68.17 a barrel, while the February Brent oil contract rose 0.14% or 0.10 to trade at $71.94 a barrel.

EUR/USD was down 0.74% to 1.05, while USD/JPY fell 0.11% to 149.59.

The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.53% at 106.39.
