Investing.com – India stocks were higher after the close on Wednesday, as gains in the , and sectors led shares higher.

At the close in NSE, the added 0.48%, while the index climbed 0.56%.

The best performers of the session on the were Maruti Suzuki India Ltd. (NS:), which rose 3.22% or 349.90 points to trade at 11,208.30 at the close. Meanwhile, Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (NS:) added 2.49% or 74.90 points to end at 3,082.00 and Larsen & Toubro Ltd (NS:) was up 1.66% or 59.85 points to 3,667.50 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were Hindalco Industries Ltd. (NS:), which fell 1.58% or 9.50 points to trade at 592.95 at the close. Dr Reddy’s Laboratories Ltd (NS:) declined 1.40% or 19.50 points to end at 1,369.00 and Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone Ltd (NS:) was down 1.01% or 12.40 points to 1,218.70.

The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Maruti Suzuki India Ltd. (BO:) which rose 3.02% to 11,195.00, Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (BO:) which was up 2.31% to settle at 3,076.45 and Larsen & Toubro Ltd (BO:) which gained 1.93% to close at 3,677.60.

The worst performers were Tata Steel Ltd (BO:) which was down 0.80% to 137.00 in late trade, Wipro Ltd (BO:) which lost 0.40% to settle at 300.80 and HCL Technologies Ltd (BO:) which was down 0.34% to 1,911.80 at the close.

Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the India National Stock Exchange by 1828 to 694 and 133 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 2598 rose and 1205 declined, while 83 ended unchanged.

The , which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was down 0.07% to 14.44.

Gold Futures for February delivery was down 0.00% or 0.05 to $2,639.30 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in February fell 0.19% or 0.14 to hit $71.72 a barrel, while the March Brent oil contract rose 1.16% or 0.85 to trade at $74.42 a barrel.

USD/INR was up 0.33% to 85.79, while EUR/INR fell 0.38% to 88.97.

The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.32% at 108.28.
